Administrative Map
On the front page there is a map of China. By clicking on the name of the provinces on that map, the provincial map will be opened. By clicking on the name of cities on a provincial map, the municipal maps could be opened. The provincial and municipal maps can also be opened by clicking on the names at the right hand side bar.
Under each map the viewers will access that region’s air quality, amount and sources of air emission.
1. Air Quality Information
Air quality information includes summary of urban air quality、acid rain description、major pollution factors description, contamination events, annual average daily sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentration, annual average daily nitrogen oxides (NO2) concentration, annual average daily carbon monoxide (CO) concentration, annual average daily inhalable particulate matter (PM10) concentration, average dustfall, annual average daily total suspended particulate (TSP), rain pH, frequency of acid rain , etc.
The definition of the terms can be viewed at Word Explanation. (In Chinese only at the moment.)
NOTE: As the government environmental reports give sporadic disclosure of carbon monoxide, TSP and API, the Air Pollution Map has gaps on these three indicators.
NOTE: The air quality data is more complete and more consistent for the year 2004 and 2005 because SEPA compiled such data of several dozen cities in its annual report on national urban environment management and comprehensive rectification. In 2006 SEPA substituted specific emission data on sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and inhalable particulates with a vague proportion figure that shows the number of days with better than category II air quality in one year.
2. Amount of emission
This part includes the emission summary, industrial emissions summary, residential emission summary, air pollution control measures description、total emissions (of both industrial and residential emissions), industrial emissions, residential and other emissions, total amount of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission, amount of industrial sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission, amount of residential and other sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission, soot emissions, industrial fume emissions, residential and other exhaust soot emissions, industrial dust emissions, the total consumption of coal, residential and other coal consumption, industrial coal consumption, fuel coal consumption、raw coal consumption、fuel oil consumption and etc.
The definition of the terms can be found at Word Explanation. (In Chinese only but will be translated into English soon.)
NOTE: As the government environmental reports give sporadic disclosure of total emission, residential and other emission, and total coal consumption; the Air Pollution Map has gaps on these three indicators.
3. List of non-compliant enterprises
The non-compliant enterprises listed on China Air Pollution Map are those that have been found violating emission standards or breaking procedural legal requirements such as EIA.
ATTENTION: The list is a compilation of records of violation and it does not necessarily reflect any given company’s current status of compliance. Please note that the year of violation is clearly marked out with each record.
